Sam Trachtman  

               

Hello! I’m a Senior Researcher at the Berkeley Economy and Society Initiative (BESI), where I run our program on California governance. We conduct research and organize convenings that generate and disseminate ideas for better governance and greater shared prosperity in California.  

Previously, I worked on research collaborations with government agencies at the Goldman School of Public Policy’s Possibility Lab. I was also a postdoctoral fellow for the Consortium on the American Political Economy. I received my PhD in Political Science from UC Berkeley in 2021.

My academic research has been published in journals including American Political Science Review, Energy Policy, Governance, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Nature Energy, Public Opinion Quarterly, and Perspectives on Politics.  My policy writing has been referenced in outlets including The Economist and CalMatters.
